4 Useful Accessories for Every Drill Press

Probably the most important jig for me is the plywood table with a sacrificial insert. This helps by supporting bigger pieces and the sacrificial part minimizes the blowout. It can be removed quickly when you need to drill into metal.

– The second one is a Digital readout to get precise hole depths. Although the drill press has a depth stop this simple readout helps when you need that extra bit of precision. I just used a cheap digital caliper and a bit of aluminum.

– The third one is a Drillbit storage arm for my most used bits. You just need a bit of plywood, a small piece of aluminum a few screws and the matching size muffler clamp.

– The Fourth is probably the simplest one, It just uses a Flexible drain hose( used for sinks) and a hose clamp. Just pick the right drain hose that fits your shop vac the closest in diameter so you can plug it into it.

Making a Draw Knife from an Old Rusty Metal File

I’m making a drawknife from an old file that I found on the scrap yard. After Annealing the file I forged it into the desired shape and bent the thangs to receive the handles that I’ve turned from beech firewood. After the steel has cooled down slowly ive burned the handles to get a perfect fit. For the hardening process, I heated the steel to a non-magnetic state and quenched the edge in pre-warmed vegetable oil. After the hardening was done I tempered the edge to a dark straw color. Afterwards the handles were glued on with two-part epoxy and additional copper ferrules. The handles were coated with boiled linseed oil.

Turning a Simple Carvers Mallet from Spalted Beech

This time I’m making a carvers mallet from spalted beech wood on the lathe. The simple shape is ideal when working with different carving chisels while it is also a great exercise in woodturning. The total length is about 10″ (250mm) and the head is 3″ (75mm) wide on the largest part. I used Boiled linseed oil for a finish as i do on all my wooden tools.

Simple Kindling Splitter from Scrap Materials / Beginner Welding Project

Splitting firewood can be dangerous sometimes because your hands are close to the blade especially in the winter when you’re using gloves or even when dealing with hard logs.

To make my life easier I made this kindling splitter from scrap materials I had leftover from other projects and some salvaged fence parts. the diameter of the rings is 20cm so you could use it also for splitting smaller logs.

This simple project requires just a welder and an angle grinder it is also ideal for someone who wants to practice welding because of the variety of welds.

Carving a Wooden Cup

This time I try Carving a wooden cup from dry Spalted Beech! It is a cut off from a slab that i had laying around. Although the wood is quite hard to carve i had so much fun doing it. I soaked the finished cup for a couple of hours in RAW Linseed oil and wiped it off afterward, I let it dry for 3 days. Pure linseed oil is a food-safe finish and it works perfectly to seal up the end grain and prevent the cup from leaking. You can find all the carving tools I used in this video down below!

Folding Plasma Table for my Welding Cart

Since I Acquired a plasma cutter recently it would be time to make a plasma cutting table for my multifunctional welding cart wich has already a folding welding table attached to it. But you can just weld on two more legs and use it as a separate table.

I took the same design and welded in some 30x3mm flat bars that are curved( the curves support the workpiece when you cut straight lines) And made a hinged pan for catching the sparks and the small offcuts. The legs are height adjustable to accommodate for uneven floors.

Making a Floor standing LED Lamp from Scrap Steel

I made this floor standing lamp from a steel scrap that I had laying around my shop, this was also the perfect opportunity to try out my new Plasma Cutter which I bought just recently (I put a link to it down below)

I f you would like to make this lamp yourself i’m pretty certain you could do all the cutting with a Jigsaw(with a metal cutting blade) or an angle grinder( just make straight cuts in the square tube instead of the curvy lines.

I’m Sorry! I messed up a Diresta Ice Pick… DirestaOfUs #10

There are so many uses for an Ice pick other than picking some Ice! In this video, I’ll try to expand on the usability by adding a permanent marker and some simple measuring marks to it.

This video is a part of the #DIRESTAOFUS video collaboration Started By Brian Lane at Wooden Creationz.

NO ICE PICKS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS VIDEO!
